January Athlete of the Month

By: 0

Congratulations to our January Athlete of the Month, Matthew Wittock!

Matt started off as a shy new member and has grown into a force to be reckoned with placing first at Thunderdome 2018 in the Intermediate division; he has proven that he will achieve anything he sets his mind to!

Read more about Matt’s journey at NNCF below:

When did you first start training at NNCF and how many days a week do you train? I started at NNCF March 5th last year, I came from a different gym in the area formally known as Crossfit Redline. I try to train at least 4-5 times a week, but it can vary with my schedule.

Tell us about your sports/fitness background: I played sports throughout high school (soccer, tennis, track) and then in college primarily  played rugby for two years and have continued to workout fairly consistently since senior year of high.
What was your first CrossFit workout and how did it go? My first ever CrossFit workout was actually with Dom when he was at Real Fitness. He put me through a  benchmark workout and i feel like I looked about as bad as I do now after Fran. It wasn’t until after i graduated college that I gave CrossFit another shot and have been hooked ever since.
Favorite Workout: I love any kind of heavy lifting workout that is strictly lifting, but my favorite metcon I’ve ever done was a Fran with the assault bike instead of pull-ups. I tend to like workouts that you can just turn your brain off and grind threw it.

Least Favorite Workout: anything with devil presses or weighted box step ups.

Why do you love North Naples CrossFit? There are two things that have really set North Naples CrossFit apart for me compared to other gyms. One the Knowledge of our coaching staff is incredible and there willingness to help people out. The amount of times Mags has helped me on my handstand pushups can be a testament to that alone. Then as I started to get more comfortable I realized that i was surrounded with such an enthusiastic and motivated community that I wanted to do nothing more than do my best. I have met some potentially lifelong friends at this gym and will continue to make more.
Favorite NNCF moment? This one is hard because I’ve had so many great moments. Whether it’s my first muscle up, or when I finally got Double-unders, but I think it would have to be the first day I came back in after thunder dome and hearing Vince and Dom yelling “here comes the champ.” I really appreciated that.
