Congratulations to our June Athlete of the Month, Ciara Ames!
This post is extra special for me as a coach because I was the person who put Ciara through her very 1st OnRamp session. Since then, Ciara has worked diligently on learning better eating habits and cleaning up her diet along with bringing the intensity to every work out in class.
When she started CrossFit in May 2017, she weighed 191 lbs… now sitting at around 142lbs she is lifting heavier weight than she could before, has more energy throughout the day and loves to inspire others to try CrossFit!
Check out Ciara’s experience at NNCF so far:
When did you first start training at NNCF and how many days a week do you train?
I started training at NNCF May 23! The week before MURPH! I currently train 4-5 days a week.
Tell us about your sports/fitness background:
I actually wasn’t very active before Crossfit!
One day, I stepped on the scale and decided I didn’t want to see that number or look that way ever again.
So, I got up, signed up, and haven’t stopped since! From 200 unhappy pounds, to a solid 140 and growing!
What was your first CrossFit workout and how did it go?
Fruity Pebbles! Dead-lifts, box jumps, and the row. It went well. I was intimidated by everyone!
But I was able to dead-lift 60# and hit 40 CAL on the Row.
Hands down, my favorite work out is MURPH! It’s patriotic and everyone turns on BEAST MODE!
I also LOVE anything that has CLEANS in it.
Least Favorite Workout:
I don’t have a least favorite WOD, but I do have a least favorite barbell movement; tie between thrusters and snatches.
Why do you love North Naples CrossFit?
Building a Stronger Community! I love NNCF because they train you and their goal is to make YOU better.
Nicole will forever correct your form! If you’re not doing it right, she’ll correct until you do. If you can’t seem to get it, you’re scaling!
Dom will push you! You say 105#, he knows you can lift 115# and you will. Every. Single. Time. I love the high fives and hell yeahs after every single WOD.
I don’t think I’ve participated in any work out at NNCF where the coach didn’t high five me and tell me good job. I believe that small gesture is huge for every member, especially the new ones.
Favorite NNCF moment?
I’m pretty new to Crossfit, so I haven’t really recorded PR’s or any notes on weights for certain movements. Well a WOD came up testing our DL. I was going pretty light because I was scared. In the last set of DL’s, I put 195# (just to see if I could lift it)and Dom looked me dead in my face and says “If you lift that, I’ll get this tattooed” and he points to the GBTC (Go Big Take Chances) written in black marker on his forearm. BOOM! That was all the motivation I needed because I walked up to the bar and lifted that shit more than once! I’ve been recording my weights ever since and Dom’s getting a new tattoo! To be continued….
